As time turns to autumn and then in winter, increased attention is important on the roads. Especially when we have to sit behind the wheel in dark, foggy weather and lead longer distances. In such cases, the fog lamp and the remote headlight are considered to be essential. They can often protect drivers from life -threatening situations and serious accidents.
In this article, we show you what to know about them, what rules apply to their use, and, of course, why the fog light and the remote headlight are inevitable for all trucks.
Fog light and remote: What is the difference and what do we use them?
The term fog lamp is likely to have already encountered those who are not a vehicle owner and does not lead regularly. However, in the common language, all the extra lamps are often referred to as a fog lamp, but it is important to know that there are basically three types of accessory headlights: the fog light, the remote headlight and the search headlight.
The task of the remote head is to illuminate the way under the appropriate visibility, ensuring that the driver of that vehicle is as far as possible. The use of a remote headlight significantly increases the visual distance and thus guarantees safety, even with high -speed driving. The search headlight is practically an additional magage, which, together with the damped headlamp, can only be used by turning on the remote headlight, it enhances its effect.
The name fog lamp covers two things in the common language: lamps used in the front and back, weak visibility. The official name of the special lighting devices at the beginning of the vehicle is the fog light, while the accessories that perform the same function are simply called the fog light at the back. The task of the front fog light is to allow us to see the road in poor visibility, while the rear fog lamp is nothing more than the driver of the car from the back to notice us sooner, thus avoiding dangerous situations.
What situations should the fog lamp be used according to the law?
The use of fog lamps is basically justified if the weather and visibility becomes less unfavorable than average. However, we can often encounter the problem on the roads that drivers use the light sources unduly. This can be confusing to others on the one hand and, on the other hand, is dangerous. Therefore, it is important to know the written and unwritten rules for the use of remote headlights and fog lights.
First, let's look at the former. The use of fog lamps is dealt with by two legislation. According to the traffic sign, "instead of or with a damped headlight, a fog light, as well as the rear -facing fog light should be used if the visibility is justified." This is basically sufficiently sufficiently, as the rule virtually entrusts the insights of drivers to see what situations are considered.
In contrast, the 6/1990 cubic regulation is more specific about the additional lights. II. It requires: “5.13. The first fog light lamp is used to improve the lighting of the driveway for fog, snowfall, rainfall, or dust clouds. 5.14. The rear fog lamp is used to indicate the presence of the vehicle more detectable in the event of a dense fog. ”
This means that, according to the law, the fog light, snowfall, rainfall, or dust clouds, while the rear fog lamp can only be used for fog. And here it is worth emphasizing that it is "usable", which means that its use is in no case mandatory.
It is also important to note that the color of the accessories cannot be any color of the long -distance headlamp and the fog light can only emit colorless (white) or cadmium yellow light.
Okay, but when does it not fit to use the fog light and headlights?
Whether it is a fog lamp or a remote -speaker, if you decide to turn it on, it is important to be aware of unwritten rules, that is, the decoration. Unfortunately, however, many people do not pay attention, and it is a common phenomenon on roads, for example, that some drivers use the front or rear fog lamp instead of dipped headlamps. This is problematic and dangerous, as many fog lights have more brightness than dipped headlights, not to mention remote headlights.
The use of unjustified headlamps and fog lamps is thus blinded by blinding drivers in front of us or just behind us. This can be particularly disturbing for the rear fog lamp, which is usually stronger than the rear position and is often more dazzling than the brake lamp.
Therefore, the use of the fog lamp is particularly forbidden in normal visibility and standing. It is very contraindicated in the case of slow travel or traffic jams or in a populated area. It is important that if a car comes in front of someone, if someone causes us, or we catch someone, turn off the fog light and use our dipped headlamps instead. If you see cars, traffic lights, traffic signs that are 100 meters ahead, the use of the fog light is also unjustified.
It can also be said that the use of the remote head is just justified on the incidental, poorly foreseeable and dark sections. It is important that it should not be blinded by the oncoming or even before us. This means that you need to turn off immediately if two or more vehicles meet each other, and if you continuously follow one or more vehicles. In addition, it is important that the remote headlight can only be used outside and at night.
Overall, so use these accessories only if they are really needed. If it is justified by both natural light and lack of public lighting for safe, comfortable driving, where we have to think not only for ourselves, but of course the other drivers on the road.
Placing and adjusting the fog light and remote header
In order to apply the additional light sources properly, we need to pay attention to several things. Among other things, for the right equipment and setting. For example, when installing a remote headlight
In addition to the luminaire and the bulb, we will usually need extra parts to connect. These include an internal switch that matches a given type and the relay. From the latter, it is worth choosing something that can be fitted directly into the vehicle's fuse panel.
It is also important to know that while only a universal type is made from a remote head, fog lamps are made from type -specific models. The latter is necessary because many vehicles have factory -formed fog lamp nests and equipment on the bumper. In such cases, only the fog lamp in a given shape can be fitted to the available space. For vehicles without fog lamp nests, it is worth looking for a relatively protected place for the lamps and protecting them from potential injuries with a grid or shock protector.
The rules only limit the use of accessories in that they cannot cover the license plate or factory lighting fixtures. Thus, the proper placement is rather determined by reason. Remote headlights are worth mounting higher above the bumper. In this way, they are able to illuminate as far as possible. The headlights mounted on the top or above the roof are already considered auxiliary headlights and can be tested in this quality. THE fog lights In contrast, it is worth installing to the lower as possible, in this way they are able to improve visibility, illuminating the fog. However, it is important that they do not get so low that can be dangerous. In any case, make sure that the fog light and remote headlight installation location and mode are determined by both the lamp and the parameters of the vehicle.
It is important to know that the poorly set front fog can be extremely disturbing for drivers face to face. The right setting is when the lamp illuminates the few meters in front of the vehicle on the driveway and on the edge. If the fog is dense, we would also want to light it far. The tiny droplets of vapor are reflected in light, which allows us to limit our own visibility instead of repairing the situation. In contrast, light spread in front of the car improves the driver's visibility.
"E" on the lamp and headlights: What does it mean and why is it important?
In the online world, you can order parts and accessories from almost anywhere to your vehicle. Unfortunately, however, it is often the case that we run into pieces on certain surfaces that are not allowed by law. This is also the case with the so -called "E" lamps, even if the product has parameters similar to the supplements adopted by law.
The letter "E" written in the circle is nothing more than an approval signal. It means that the lamp was examined at a specialized institute and found that it complies with the ECE standards for it. In all cases, the letter "E" is followed by the number of the UN-EGB requirement, which defines the approval State, the number of the requirements of the requirement, and other signals.
It is important to know that if a luminaire is designed for a particular type of bulb, only a bulb with "E" can be installed. And only the product that corresponds to the specification of a given socket can only be given. In the absence of an approval signal, the component cannot participate in road traffic, so the "E" mark is essential for remote headlights. If the given supplement does not have this, it cannot be up on the vehicle. In such a case, the exam is deployed with the owner, and even the use may result in the payment of the registration permit.
If, on the other hand, the remote headlight of us has a "E" mark, then it can be mounted on the vehicle after the technical licensing and can be used without problems in the necessary situations.
What kind of bulb should we choose for safe transport?
What bulb for the additional light sources depends on what socket the lamp has. Most often you can choose from the following types:
· Designed for H3 - 55 W;
· Designed for H8 - 35W;
· Designed for H11 - 65 W;
· Designed for H27 - 27W;
It is important to know that it is not worth experimenting with different bulbs in performance, as if you install a bulb of more power than the standard socket, the fuses may burn.
There are basically three types of additional lighting: halogen, xenon and LED. They are different in their performance. In order to find out exactly whether a bulb fits the lamp, we need to check the manufacturer's mark on the cover.
Halogen: Their efficiency and light installation are the most popular halogen bulbs. Halogen bulbs have a warm ray of light that can penetrate well both the fog and the dense rain. Their brightness does not decrease over time, but their life can be quite short. Halogen bulbs are denoted with the letter "H", and the lamps are marked "B" and are not suitable for other types of bulb.
Xenon: Xenon bulbs guarantee higher brightness and higher life than halogen bulbs. They rarely burn or fail. They are resistant to voltage fluctuations and require much less energy than halogen bulbs. In return, however, the goods are higher. Over time, their brightness decreases, which can be barely noticeable to the driver, so you need to pay more attention to when the time of the bulb has come. It is important to know that if xenon bulbs are installed in an inappropriate headlight, light can blind the oncoming traffic, so their use is strictly regulated by the law. Xenon can only legally install a car equipped with automatic headlamp height, headlamp wash and a headlamp house designed for Xenon bulb. Xenon bulbs are marked "D", and lamps specifically developed for xenon can be recognized from the "F3" mark.
LED: LED bulbs are characterized by low power consumption, strong vibration resistance and high life. They can provide all this at a reasonable price. The heat production is minimal and can be used in places where warming can be a threat. In addition, the LED is low or there is no light mullet, which means that the lamp is lit where you need it. However, it is important to know that in case of improper equipment, light can blind the oncoming traffic. The LED bulbs are labeled "LED" and the associated lamps are marked with "F3". Lights with "B" are not suitable for installing LED bulbs, which is why the lamps designed for halogen bulbs cannot be used with LED lighting. In Europe and Hungary, it is irregular on the one hand, and on the other hand, the LED bulbs used in this way provide worse performance in the entire system than halogens.
What shape should the remote headlight be?
There are two ways to choose from the remote headlight shape. Rectangular and circle headlamp is available on the market. In terms of size, we can also decide between small 10-15 centimeters and large 20 cents in diameter headlights. But the glass can be worked out. There are solutions that perform well with great distance, and the light they emit is more prickly. But we can also choose a solution that is more closely suitable for the tablecloth.
The optional solutions have a built -in position indicator that lights around the circular headlamp. One solution is the so -called Angel Eye, which means
There is a position indicator on one of the outer points of the circle and a special glass around the circle, which allows the lighting to solve the edge of the circle.
No matter what quality we choose
In the case of remote headlights and fog lamps, it is important to pay attention to choosing a good quality product. It is worth spending a little more for this purpose, because more expensive but better quality pieces are much more durable. In the case of cheaper pieces, after 2-3 years, the spinning detaches, the seals are old, and the lamps will soak and will be useless over time.
